And with good reason, it turns out.
On Dec. 15 of last year, the two men launched Meggings Man, their online-only business devoted entirely to leggings crafted specifically for guys. They've been working long hours to keep up with orders ever since. Within a week of the Meggings website going live, they say they sold out of their first run of inventory. Their second run sold out just as quickly and back orders were piling up in a response Freck described as "beyond expectations." Volk (left) and Freck with their signature product: Meggings. Still, given all the derision and ridicule meggings have been subject to in recent years, one has to wonder if the trend has staying power. Both Volk and Freck, who have worked in apparel and e-commerce for the past five years, insist that it does. "I think this is the right time for meggings," Volk said. "I think men are getting more comfortable with wearing something like this, more so than they ever have. I truly don't think it will be something that comes and goes within a year." The men's venture started when they began noticing men wearing women's leggings and.. not exactly pulling the look off. "I just feel that they weren't fitting as well as I felt they could," Volk explained. "Certain areas were showing too much, certain areas weren't very flattering on male legs, so we made some samples." The black on black meggings with metallic inserts. Six months of tweaking the meggings' design later and they were ready to launch. The meggings are a polyester-spandex blend and start at $29.95 going up to $10 more for metallic fabrics and prints like galaxy, camouflage and nebula. They have an extra panel of fabric added to the hips to make them roomier for mens' typically larger upper legs, as well as a wider waist band and a sort of faux zipper fly that gives them an appearance that references jeans. What the meggings don't have are pockets, a factor the two recognize could dissuade some from trying the look out. The meggings are also supposed to be hand washed in cold water, likely a tall order for many guys. Freck said they are currently testing new pocket options that would strike "a happy medium between the look not being sacrificed and the functionality." The hand washing issue is inevitable, at least with the current fabrics used. Other ideas Meggings Man are currently exploring, as the company looks toward next fall and beyond, include heartier fabric choices that would allow men to wear them as pants during the colder winter months, placing zippers on certain designs and creating other clothing items that make the most sense to help complete a full outfit around meggings. They are also looking to get their products into more stores and showrooms -- for now, their lone brick-and-mortar retailer is Cram Fashion in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood. Finally, the two also have their eye on continuing to offer new designs that respond to the styles compression tights that have appealed the most to their customers. Volk said, thus far, their more "serious, single-colored, darker" pants have been their best sellers to date. The navy blue basic megging. Though Meggings Man appears to be the only meggings-centric business currently around, the trend has already hit the shelves of popular retailers including Zara, Uniqlo, Barneys and Nordstrom. The look also hit center stage for the Super Bowl half time show earlier this month when the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Anthony Kiedis donned a pair. As for meggings' critics -- Anderson Cooper called meggings "ridiculous," GQ said, simply, "no" and someone at Buzzfeed said they "should not exist" -- Freck told HuffPost he suspects they would have a different opinion if they actually gave the pants a go themselves. "These are probably the same types of people that would make fun of skinny jeans 15 years ago, and now every major jean company has it as a big part of what they provide," Freck said. "It was mocked and now it's the norm. It's not that we're trying to replace [skinny jeans], but the slimming down of pants is a trend we see going on and we're just part of that." "All it takes is for them to try them on and some of the fears they had will wash away," he added. Galaxy-print meggings. Trepidations aside, I wanted to see if Freck had a point. Would I emerge as an advocate once if I tried them for myself? First, it should be noted that my style already veers toward slimmer fits -- the vast majority of my regular rotation of pants are skinny jeans -- and what my mom calls an "edgy look." Also, I live in Chicago, a major metropolitan center, and my employer isn't exactly the sort of place where a suit and tie are required or even expected. So what worked for me would very likely be more of a stretch for the average American dude. For my meggings debut, I wore the company's new black-on-black meggings, which adds two metallic black panels -- one just above and one just below the knee -- to the line's basic black meggings, under cuffed black denim shorts to my office in the Loop on a Thursday. Freck described such layering as "a nice little baby step" to the full-fledged meggings experience, not to mention in line with The Sartorialist founder Scott Schuman's advice to USA Today that the trend worked best for non-ballet dancers when layered. They were slightly tighter, of course, than even the skinniest of skinny jeans but more comfortable and, I would venture to guess, put me at less risk of circulation problems or nerve damage. Though I'll admit to feeling initially a bit strange riding the train amongst a sea of business slacks and jeans, soon, I just felt cozy and sort of badass all at once. The next day, a Saturday, I tried out a second pair while spending some quality time with my DVR and trying to fend off the start of a cold. Each time I looked down at my galaxy print-clothed legs, I couldn't help but smile. But I wasn't feeling quite brave enough to rock them for a trip to the grocery store or post office. The last day of the experiment, I wore the line's metallic black meggings out to brunch and a bit of shopping in Logan Square. Though the metallic material felt more constrictive than the other pairs, they were still more comfortable than a lot of skinny jeans. To avoid the issue of not having pockets, I layered it under a long black hoodie with pockets -- though my jacket would have sufficed too. The author wears (and quite possibly pulls off?) black metallic leggings. So, will I wear meggings again? Sure. Why not? Like any other trend, this isn't for everyone and any meggings-wearer will stand out from the crowd, but is that such a bad thing? For the most part, I felt comfortable, sleek and confident in wearing them, and isn't that exactly what fashion should aim to accomplish? Alan Sorrentino says the response to the letter to the editor, printed in The Barrington Times Wednesday, has been "vicious" and that he's received death threats. He implored marchers to stay away from his home and maintained the letter was meant to be humorous. But organizers say the so-called yoga pants parade wasn't a protest against Sorrentino specifically but part of a bigger movement against misogyny and men dictating how women should dress. More than 300 people -- many of them women and young girls -- came out for the social media-driven event in the affluent, coastal town of Barrington, the Providence Journal reported. Many wore yoga pants of varying styles and colors. They gathered at a local elementary school and marched along neighborhood streets, some holding pink signs that said "Peaceful Pants Party." They also collected personal hygiene items for the Sojourner House, a local domestic violence organization. Marchers ended with a group yoga session on a grassy area by the school. Sorrentino, in his letter, described yoga pants as the worst thing in women's fashion since the miniskirt. He argued that yoga pants belong in the yoga studio and that women over age 20 shouldn't wear them in public. Sorrentino said it was particularly "bizarre and disturbing" to see the outfits on "mature, adult women." He suggested those women wear a "nice pair of tailored slacks" or jeans instead. Sorrentino told WPRO-AM the letter was meant to be a humorous break from the current political campaign rhetoric and that he doesn't really have an issue with yoga pants. He says he even owns a pair. Sorrentino likened the death threats and expletive-laden voicemails he says he's received to what he's experienced for years as an openly gay man. "It's vicious and intimidating," he said Saturday on WPRO-AM. "The fact that this is seen as an appropriate reaction to something I wrote in the paper is really disgusting." Organizers said they invited Sorrentino to their event, but that he "very impolitely yoga pants for women declined." On Sunday, a police detail was posted in front of Sorrentino's home, which had a hand-written banner saying "Free Speech" hanging over it. On their Facebook page, parade organizers urged participants not to engage with Sorrentino or any other residents negatively. of very kind emails and comments full of appreciation that I speak positively about men who wear womens clothes. Many of them "wish there were more women yoga tank tops who love cross dressers". And a lot of them say how hard it is to find such women. So there's obviously something of a shortage of such women. I have touched on this in other articles and here I want to take it further and try to help those of you, who are searching but not finding. Much of what comes now is not rigorous research or analysis on social studies but mostly opinions that I came to from my own life story and my encounters with the people in my life. I know, that might not help you terribly well, since I'm not exactly a 'normal' woman. But I'm not a total nut job either. What gave me the attraction to cross dressing men was not a freak incident or a birth defect that only few women have. It was a series of experiences and I'm sure that many other women, surely the majority, would arrive at a similar place if they had made the same experiences. From my point of view, I can't see how one can not appreciate men willing to wear womens clothes. But that view is where I am AFTER undergoing the process that led me here. Before that, I was just as ignorant and dismissive as everybody else. How is that supposed to help you? The fact that I wasn't born this way but became a woman who likes cross dressers rather late means that, instead of looking for women who openly accept men wearing womens clothes, you could kind of 'make your own'. As with everything involving people, it won't always work but I am sure that, given enough chances, most men could make this happen. I also believe it's probably more successful than going out looking to date women who already say they like men wearing womens clothes. I have had a reader tell me he finds it best to go out openly from the start, so perhaps I'm wrong. But I obviously can't comment on his experiences. I can say, however, that many 'normal' women would reject a man who wears womens clothes openly from the start. I probably would have, if I'd met one when I was 18. But, because of what happened with me, I think many of those same women who dismiss and reject cross dressers, might very well learn to love them if they had the same things happen to them. How to help your partner to like you wearing womens clothes The most important thing here is how you tell her that you cross dress. If you haven't yet, then I suggest that you read that article now. In my case, that turned out to be crucial and I am certain this will be the same for most women. I've heard many stories about men who keep their lifestyle a secret for many years and then get caught. That, for example, is not the way to go about it. But that isn't enough. Another important part of the story is that I was completely in love and my boyfriend could have told ma a whole load of things and I wouldn't have minded. Maybe my attraction to cross dressing men was down to my associating it with someone I love. That could very well be and then it could also work for many others. The problem is, you don't just want her to put up with you and tolerate you wearing womens clothes. You want her to appreciate it and perhaps even love it as much as you do. I won't lie to you. This is much harder. It's always a tough thing racerback tank top to try to make somebody like something but it's not impossible. Again, I'll try to describe how I started liking it and maybe it works similarly for others. Read my article on why I love cross dressers to get an idea. In short, it's down to him trusting me with such a secret, the fact that I'm attracted to vulnerability in men and the fact that he has a gorgeous body that looks stunning in anything that reveals or flatters his shape. Those three things are what drive me nuts about it and any one of them would have been enough to make me like it. It's not just about clothes but also about taste The fact that men wearing womens clothes is an issue to many people, is mostly down to ignorance and intolerance. We all know that but there's another side to it that I rarely see mentioned by anyone and that is taste. If you wear something that doesn't suit you at all then you're not going to win people's appreciation. That has little to do with gender. You see, not all women get away with wearing all the clothes they want either. For a laugh, I put on my boyfriends casual wear and it looked absolutely hideous on me even though it was ok on him. Or as another example, try to imagine a very overweight woman with hairy legs, be honest with yourself about how you'd think of her wearing sexy lingerie. And the reality is that most men don't look after their bodies like women do and so there are a lot more men who aren't suited to that kind of fashion. It's not because they can't become suited or because the male body isn't suited for it per se, but simply because they didn't prepare enough. As far as I'm concerned, I even love those men wearing womens clothes whom it doesn't suit in the least because it has something endearing and helpless about it. But this is the part where I'm the weird one and you shouldn't count on meeting many others with such a preference. Then again, I don't really know that - just a guess based on my observation of the people I meet. The bottom line about this "taste thing" is that, something like sheer tights or suspenders look amazingly hot on the right legs - that is every bit as true for lean muscular mens legs as it is for lean womens legs (far more so in my opinion) and I'm sure most women would agree with me. She establishes what's 'in' and if we want to look trendy we have no other choice than to obey.
Fashion is also very creative and courageous. She combines trends that were popular in the past with newly discovered trends and is even not afraid to predict the future. And from time to time she likes to surprise us and brings back something from the past we thought and hoped is never coming back. In 2005 she surprised us with a huge comeback of leggings. Not that it was a pleasant surprise for me. It was more like - ' Seriously? Leggings. Are you kidding me?' I'm still not a big fan, but I have to admit that once you learn how to wear leggings right, they can help you to look great and feel confident. In the past people used to wear leggings made of buckskin or wool for protection against cold and animal bites and later they were worn for exercise. It wasn't until 1960s that leggings became a part of fashion.There are some important rules that can teach you how to wear leggings appropriately to look great and feel confident and comfortable. And as long as you will abide by these rules, you can for example learn how to wear leggings without looking as you have just stepped out of a gym. If you want to avoid that wear them at the top of your calves, but never above the knee, unless you like to carry your bicycle around as an accessory. Remember that leggings are not bicycle trousers. Use rather leggings as an accessory and try to match them with the rest of your outfit. It should be quite easy as they are available in different colours. So it's not only a good old black but brighter colours as well. Leggings are not trousers so don't use them as an alternative to trousers and don't wear them with sweatshirt or short, tight tops as you might end up looking half naked.You might have noticed that the most common way how most women wear leggings these days is with oversized, long sweaters, long blouses or knee length dresses. It's definitely the best combination and it's very practical as well, especially when you have curvier hips or thighs. As an accessory you can wear some huge belt and leggings definitely look best with flat shoes, like ballet flats or boots. But oversized clothing is not the only way how to wear leggings. You can also wear them under mini skirts or short shorts, with some flat shoes, like sandals or cowboy boots.If you are like me and you're not compression tights very pleased with the comeback of these very tight - fitted leggings I have one advice - give them a try, especially if you want to be 'in' this year you should have few pairs in your wardrobe. To get the most out of every workout and get your best results, it is imperative not only to work hard, but to recover. Many triathletes are Type A, overachievers. They have the "work hard" principle down, but often overlook the basic training principle of recovery in their training programs. As a result, many are overtrained from an accumulation of workout and life stresses paired with insufficient recovery. This can further lead to overuse or burnout, which can be detrimental to health. Simply, recovery can be described as the adaptations to workloads after training or competition. For a healthy, functioning athlete, recovery is a positive response to training stimuli leading to adaptation to those stressors.
To reach your full potential as an athlete, you need to be able to train hard, but also be able to train smart, which can be Mens Compression Leggings a delicate balance. Hard work alone will not produce the desired results. The benefits of recovery will increase an athlete's ability to tolerate more work as well as their capacity to work more efficiently. This, in effect, promotes better adaptation to training. Therefore, recovery can be the athlete's "secret weapon". If an athlete can train harder and longer and adapt to the workloads, he or she will become faster. Recovery is more than merely taking a day off from training or sleeping, although it may involve these. It entails giving the body everything it requires to adapt to the preceding workouts. The following are some methods to incorporate into your training schedule to help with your recovery. Passive rest Sleep is the most important form of passive rest. Teaching athletes the importance of getting to bed on time can be a big obstacle. A full night's sleep of eight to nine hours each night provides for adaptation time to the physical and emotional stressors they experience during the day. Most importantly, our circadian rhythm indicates that physical repair mostly takes place between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. From 2:00 a.m. until we awaken, more psychogenic (mental) repair takes place. So, if you get to bed after 10:00 p.m., you are missing out on your physical repair cycle. Likewise, a disrupted sleep cycle can result in adrenal fatigue, which can lead to chronic fatigue syndrome, viral infections, bacterial and fungal infections, and headaches. Avoiding any stimulants, including caffeine, bright lights, TV, or computer use a few hours before bed can help with this disrupted sleep. Likewise, short afternoon naps can also increase recovery. Active rest Active rest is much undervalued by athletes, as a light workout can sometimes support recovery more than a day completely off. Active recovery sessions need to increase circulation and activate certain endocrine responses, but easy enough to avoid more recovery. Work intensities should be very light. Active rest days should be done alone and on easy terrain to prevent any competition between training partners or extra effort required on tough terrain. Cross training activities can be included as a form of active recovery. Aquajogging is an excellent alternative to running for active recovery. Stretching or yoga can be useful methods of active recovery as they center on musculoskeletal recovery. Active recovery may also focus on psychological recovery with the use of visualization, breathing exercises, or meditation. Lastly, at least one day every 7-10 days should be a non-training day to allow time for physical and psychological recovery. Nutrition Nutrition plays an integral role in training and recovery. Proper nutrition and hydration replacement requires thought and planning. A body weight loss of 2% during exercise due to fluid loss causes physiological changes including a reduction in aerobic output. Monitoring urine output and sweat rates by weighing pre and post training can help in minimizing fluid loss. Athletes should drink 16 fluid oz. of water for every pound lost during a workout. Sufficient amounts of glycogen in the muscles and liver are needed to support the energy requirements of an athlete. It will also further recovery for the next training session. A meal within a 20 minute window after each workout should be consumed to ensure optimal glycogen replacement and to help rebuild damaged tissues. This meal should include both protein and carbohydrate in a 1:4 ratio. The 20 minute time period after a workout should be employed in order to replenish muscle fuel stores at a faster rate than by delaying carbohydrate replacements. Including protein in this meal and throughout the day helps to facilitate training adaptation and recovery. The amino acids supplied by protein aids the muscles and connective tissues to rebuild from workouts. Massage Sports massage can accelerate and facilitate recovery. It has two major physiological benefits-increasing blood flow, which, in turn, increases the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to tired muscles and aids in the removal of metabolic by-products such as lactic acid; and flexibility due to the warming and stretching of soft tissues. Massage offers psychological benefits as well. These include feeling more relaxed and less fatigued. There are several self-massage techniques which can be learned and included to enhance recovery. For instance, muscles can be massaged by using a tennis ball, foam roller, or other specific massage tools. Hydrotherapies/ice baths Water therapies are much underused and underrated recovery protocols. Showers, spas, baths, and saunas are ideal locations in which to stretch and perform self-massage. One method that can be employed while showering is to alternate hot and cold water every 30 seconds to one minute a few times through. Doing this will increase blood flow and speed the removal of lactic acid. It can also be performed by alternating between a warm spa and a cold shower. This method of lactate removal is similar to the recovery of lactic acid through light aerobic activities. Although it can be unpleasant at first, using an ice bath or going into a cold lake or ocean after a hard workout can be an effective recovery modality. Getting into an ice bath for five to 10 minutes causes your blood vessels to tighten and drains the blood out of your legs. This helps in the treatment of subacute injuries, inflammation, muscular strains, or muscular soreness. Ice baths are great for repairing microscopic damage that may not be apparent and numbing the pain that is noticeable. Thus, an ice bath is a great preventative regimen as all muscles and connective tissues from hips to toes will gain the equal benefits. To best gain these results, the temperature should range from 54-60 F. Psychological/stress recovery Everyone has certain life stressors that can take a toll on them. By recognizing and taking the steps to minimize these stressors, better recovery can occur. All athletes can profit from utilizing psychological exercises to control emotions and mood states, reduce stress, and improve motivation. Part of recovery is being able to see the connection between physical and mental conditions as psychological stress has very real physiological manifestations and may inhibit recovery. For instance, this connection can be observed when muscle relaxation is linked with lowered heart rate and blood pressure and improved mood states. An athlete can employ a number of stress reducers and relaxation methods such as meditation, progression muscle relaxation, breathing exercises, tai chi, music, and other techniques. These methods can help lower blood pressure and heart rate, slow down breathing rates, relax muscles, and have a calming effect. Compression Socks Compression Socks (or tights) increase blood flow, stimulate circulation and reduces muscle fatigue. They permit blood to circulate more efficiently without hindering return through the heart and lungs. With a quicker distribution of oxygenated blood to the legs and feet, there is decreased muscle fatigue. Many athletes are using these after hard workouts and races. Just slip them on and wear at anytime, including sleeping in them. Using Recovery Techniques in Training Just like any other training, recovery should be part of a well-designed workout plan. In addition, an athlete needs to self-monitor themselves by keeping a workout log and being in tune with their bodies. At certain training phases, recovery will be more of a necessity as training loads or intensities increase. Likewise, after a race season, it is a good idea to recover from everything a season can entail-travel, racing, waking up early, and etc. Using recovery methods as a part of your training will put you on the road for your best results and help you enjoy your sport longer. Yoga isn't an expensive exercise to take up but you will need some basic equipment to get you started. The five main items are clothing, a yoga mat, a blanket, a block and a yoga strap. In this article we'll cover each of the items, what they are and whether you should buy them before you get started.
1. Start with comfortable clothing To get the most out of your yoga practice you will need to wear light, comfortable clothing. Shorts or lose fitting bottoms work well, but avoid lycra as this could cause you to slip. Choose a top that is loose but form fitting as some of the poses are inverted, which means that your head will come down below your hips and could cause your top to ride up. You don't need to worry about expensive footwear as yoga is practiced barefoot, in fact many studios ask that you leave your shoes at the door to protect the floor area and keep it clean. 2. Add a yoga mat Yoga mats, or sticky mats as they are often called define your personal space in the studio. They also provide traction for your hands and feet so that you don't slip during the poses. You can usually rent a mat from your studio, but they will be used by lots of other students and you don't know how yoga apparel often they are washed; it's surprising how sweaty hands and feet become during yoga practice. You can buy a yoga mat for as little as $20 from a sports store or an online yoga specialist. Beware of cheap yoga mats as often they can be slippy which can lead to injuries. Most studios will happily store your mat for you if you become a regular which saves you carrying it to class each time. 3. Blankets When you start out you will probably not be too flexible so a folded blanket is useful as a prop for seated postures. They also come in handy in the relaxation time at the end of class if it is chilly in the studio. You don't need to buy your own mat unless you wish to practice at home as most studios will have a supply for you to borrow during class. 4. Blocks Blocks are also useful for beginners, especially for the bending poses where you have trouble touching the floor with your hands. Again these should be available for you to borrow during class, but if you want to practice at home can be purchased from the yoga specialist store. 5. Straps A yoga strap will help you to reach your feet in seated postures. Like blocks they are inexpensive and can be purchased for practice at home or borrowed during class if required. You don't need to buy expensive equipment to start practicing yoga, just some comfortable clothes and a sticky mat will set you on your way. Items like blankets, blocks and straps are useful for beginners and can be either purchased or borrowed from the yoga studio. ';
