A video on Buzzfeed prompted me to check out Forever21's website. I am way over the age of being allowed to set foot inside the physical store, but the video gave women's reactions to some of their graphic t-shirts and I had to know what all the fuss was about.
What I discovered was an array of shirts which seem to be painting young girls as sexualized, uncaring, insensitive and dim-witted buffoons. I am appalled at some of the slogans being marketed towards young women. Below are just a few that turned my WTF meter to 11. So, either you can be creative or you can be in love. Really? Turn on the radio, read a poem, watch a movie and it is clearly evident that love can actually propel creativity to new heights. Seriously -- what does this mean? The subtext being, "But you wouldn't know that by how I dress." I guess smart girls can't wear crop tops. Sorry, ladies who express their personalities through fashion -- if you want to be taken seriously, you better don a muumuu. This cute script says "Trouble Maker." Why should young girls ever yoga tshirts consider being a troublemaker, let alone advertise it? This is a clear play on teenagers' need for acceptance and feeling like if they're the "bad girl," they'll be respected or popular. Risqu: adjective. "Slightly indecent or liable to shock, especially by being sexually suggestive." Because that's a message that should be marketed to young women. This one confounds me. Is the wearer saying she's gross, or that the person reading it is gross? I know this is supposed to be cute or something, but I just don't get it. I believe the defense of this shirt is that the clothing itself is the fancy little number -- like the new little black dress or something. But come on. Is anyone going to look at, or buy, the shirt with that intention? Absolutely not. "Likes" = love. False love. Ladies should not be told, even inadvertently, that doing things for "likes" is a worthy reason to do things. Our teenage years are full of hormone surges and complicated feelings that no amount of shopping can -- or should -- replace. "sequence":2}]" width="378" /> Sexualization and aggression all wrapped up in one black shirt. That's exactly what I'd want my 15-year-old telling the world. Evidently, the way to a teenager's heart is with a burger and a compliment on her exterior beauty. No need to tell her she's smart or creative or inspirational. Nope. Just "pretty" with a side of fries will do. The pice de nerd shirts resistance. This was my mantra through my angsty teen years when all I wanted was for someone to tell me they did care about me. Now, young women can just wear this shirt to divert everyone's attention from the fact they really need someone to listen to them. I understand these shirts are meant to be cute and trendy, ironic and funny, but they just make me sad that my daughter is growing up in a society where young women's insecurities are being preyed upon for the all mighty dollar. It's just wrong and unconscionable and flat-out disturbing. Shame on you, Forever21. You can find more from Toni Hammer at Is It Bedtime Yet, on Facebook, and on Twitter.

In part because of its comfortable softness, smooth hand, graceful and gentle drape, and easy price - at least compare with silk and cashmere - and eco welcoming cachet, bamboo has gained entry throughout the style industry. But it has been the trumpets herald bamboo as the latest and hottest sustainable eco-fabric that have been the most vociferous. And some of the hoopla is justified. mounting wicker is a wonderfully beneficial plant for the planet and most is obviously organic bamboo.
The built-up processes where bamboo the plant is transformed into bamboo the fabric are where the sustainability and eco-friendly luster of bamboo is flawed because of the heavy chemicals, some of which are toxic, that are often mandatory. Very, very little bamboo clothing would walnut watches qualify as sustainable or unrefined clothes. Here's the dipper. Botanically categorize as a grass and not a tree, wicker just capacity is the world's most sustainable supply. It is the fastest increasing meadow and can shoot up a yard or more a day. Rattan reaches maturity rapidly and is ready for harvesting in about 4 years. Bamboo does not require replanting after harvest because its vast root network incessantly sprouts new shoots which almost zoom up while you watch them, pull in sunlight and orangery gases and converting them to new green growth. And bamboo does this the natural way without the need for petroleum-guzzling tractors and lethal pesticides and fertilizers. Bamboo the plant is wonderfully sustainable; bamboo the material isn't so easy to sort out. There are two ways to progression bamboo to make the stand into a fabric: instinctively or chemically. The mechanical way is by overwhelming the woody parts of the wicker plant and then use natural enzymes to break the rattan walls into a mushy mass so that the accepted fibers can be instinctively combed out and spun into yarn. This is in effect the same ecological manufacturing process used to produce linen fabric from flax or hemp. Bamboo fabric made from this process is sometimes called bamboo linen. Very little bamboo linen is affected for clothing because it is more labor intensive and costly. Chemically contrived bamboo fiber is a regenerate cellulose fiber similar to rayon or modal. Chemically contrived bamboo is sometimes called wicker rayon because of the many similarity in the way it is chemically manufactured and similarities in its feel and hand. Most cane fabric that is the current eco-fashion rage is chemically affected by "cooking" the bamboo leaves and woody shoots in strong chemical solvents such as sodium hydroxide (NoAH - also known as caustic soda or lye) and carbon disulfide in a process also known as hydrolysis alkalization combined with multi-phase bleach. Both sodium hydroxide and carbon disulfide have been connected to serious health harms. Gasp low levels of carbon disulfide can source tiredness, headache and nerve damage. Carbon disulfide has been shown to cause neural disorders in employees at rayon manufacturer. Low levels of experience to sodium hydroxide can cause frustration of the skin and eyes. Sodium hydroxide is a brawny alkaline base also known as scathing soda or lye. Struggling to find that perfect Valentine's Day gift for the man in your life? Target is facing some heat from some shoppers who said it is selling T-shirt in its juniors department emblazoned with the words "Trophy," "Mrs." and "This is my backstage pass."
Several women posted shots of what they say are shirt racks at the department store stocking the shirts in question. Some critics are now slamming the tees as anti-woman.A Change.org petition called "Stop Selling Sexist 'Trophy' Shirt That Demeans Women" has a couple hundred signatures. But are these shirts really that big a deal? Jen Groover, a motivational speak and author of, "What If? & Why Not," says the tees indeed depict women negatively. "The general use of the term 'trophy wife' in our society, is meant as a demeaning term toward the woman and a symbolic 'high-five' toward the man for scoring outside of his zone," Groover told FOX411. "I would prefer seeing more positive statements that are empowering for myself, my daughters and all women." But not everyone agrees. "The word has a different connotation to people. I have many girlfriends who are single that are human rights activists, lawyers, teachers, and doctors who I would call 'trophies' because I believe men would be so lucky to know them," said Wendy Diamond, creator of the Women's Entrepreneuship Day held women's graphic t shirts at the UnitedNations. Clinical psychologist Dr. Chloe Carmichael agrees, saying says she works "with women on a daily basis who want the men in their lives to pursue them and show enthusiasm for winning them over in relationship, so it makes perfect sense that they want to celebrate being a prize that he has worked hard to win.We have to remember that the women are calling themselves the trophy, and they're actually in control." She also pointed out that the "Mrs." shirt is not demeaning in the least. "Being a wife demonstrates that the man in your life has 'forsaken all others' as the vows usually indicate," Carmichael said. "So actually, the woman wearing the 'Mrs' T-shirt is celebrating that the man in her life has chosen her exclusively above all others." Target is defending itself against its detractors, saying the shirts were not for juniors, and are just meant for fun. "It is never our intention to offend anyone and we always appreciate receiving feedback form our guests," a Target rep said in a statement. "The shirt you're describing is part of a collection of engagement women graphic tees and wedding shirts that are available in our women's and plus size departments. The collection also included shirts that say 'Team Bride,' 'Mrs.' and 'Bride.' These shirts are intended as a fun wink and we have received an overwhelmingly positive response from our guests." President and CEO of 5WPR Ronn Torossian said of the controversy: "It seems like a lot of noise about nothing. Target is one of the largest companies in the world, selling thousands of products, seems like an overreaction which will go nowhere quickly." Who knew?!! Totally shocking, if you ask me, but if you think about it, anything that helps men create that perfect ambiance (and makes their houses smell good) would probably be pretty popular! When buying candles for your man -- no pink or lavenders-colored ones, or fruity scents. Men want a masculine-looking candle with a dark and brooding scent, like the Modern Alchemy Ember & Eros candle. Or keep the scent light and clean like the Molton-Brown Toko-Yuzu candle. But guess what? HE DOES!!!! Sheets are the third most sought-after item by guys on our site. And they want good ones. Given how much a decent mattress can cost, it's understandable that you might want to avoid spending a third as much again on linens. But, then you buy a nice set and you realize it's well worth it. And, we should note, this is true regardless of whether you typically sleep with company or alone. Your sheets should be made of 100 percent cotton. Go with long staple cotton, either Egyptian (grown near the Nile) or Pim a (named after the Pima Indians who helped develop it in the early 1900s in Southwestern America). Avoid poly-cotton blends at all costs. Ditto silk which, though shiny, is also a little gauche. As far as patterns -- and this should go completely without saying -- The time for sheets with cartoon characters on them is over. Black is a little American Psycho. Choose instead a simple white, gray or ivory. As for thread count, it has somehow become the key indicator of quality over the past two decades, but in our opinion, it's mostly malarkey. Anything over 400 is likely a double ply, which means the thread count is actually half what is advertised. Look for sheets in the 300 to 400 range. First seen by Dutch-language Let's Go Digital the listing mentions a phone model number we saw in the past. SM-G888N0 was associated with Samsung's foldable phone in previous rumors. The listing doesn't reveal any details about the handset, but it has a September 21st, 2017 date. Is that an indication that Samsung is accelerating the Galaxy X rollout? We can't really say. It'd be surprising to see Samsung unveil the phone in the coming months because we haven't seen any leaks. And Samsung is far from being the tight-lipped company it wants to be. Any phone is thoroughly leaked months before its arrival. On the other hand, Samsung wants to be seen as an innovator in the mobile business rather than a fast-follower. A Galaxy X launch would sure help the company make that statement especially now that the iPhone X Is official. So far, the G888 received Wi-Fi and Bluetooth certifications, which is only to be expected from any device that has such wireless abilities. The fact that the NRRA approved the handset indicates that the Galaxy X is approved for the local market.
